DUI School
Most people convicted of DUI are required to enroll in an alcohol education program or attend DUI school. The court will decide the length and requirements of the program based on the circumstances surrounding the case, such as if the offender has any prior DUI charges or convictions. An individual may also be required to attend DUI school by the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles.
In many cases, the defendant chooses to seek DUI school in lieu of harsher penalties. Most judges will grant DUI school, versus other punishments, unless the defendant has multiple DUI convictions. Many people believe DUI school is a much more effective punishment than jail or probation. At DUI school, offenders learn about the importance of driving responsibly, and the negative consequences of abusing drugs and alcohol while driving. DUI school also gives offenders the opportunity to confront their alcohol or drug problems, and seek the help they need. DUI school provides offenders with the resources and counseling to break their addictions or bad habits, and move towards a positive future.
