"Tow to Go" Program Open for Holiday Season
For more than a decade, AAA Auto Club South and Budweiser's "Tow to Go" program has provided free, confidential rides home and complimentary tows to people who have had too much to drink before driving home. During the holidays, from November 24 to January 2nd the rides are without charge for all AAA members.
The program boasts that it is kept more than 11,000 drunk drivers off of the roads since 1998. Over 75% of the calls are taken during this holiday season. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years are holidays that have very high DUI rates. In many counties, police set up DUI checkpoints on roads in order to make the public more aware about drunk driving. The 4th of July has the highest DUI arrest and accident rates after these three holidays.
Last year during this holiday season, the Tow to Go program drove over 1,200 people home. The goal of the program is to keep our streets safer by ensuring that no one feels forced to drive home while intoxicated.
