Former Assistant Public Defender Faces Third DUI

On Saturday, November 12, a former assistant public defender was pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving. Police became suspicious when they saw her car driving through the 35 mph speed zone at a racing 64 mph; they also noted that the suspect was driving erratically, was swerving amongst the lanes and was driving so severely that she almost hit the curb of the sidewalk.

When law enforcement officers attempted to pull her over, she did not initially notice the flashing lights. When she did notice, she abruptly slammed on the brakes – almost causing an accident in the process. After the officers approached her vehicle, they picked up on the strong scent of alcohol and noticed other tell-tale signs, such as bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. At the time of the arrest, the defendant refused to take the field sobriety test. When she was later administered a breath test at the jail, however, she blew a 0.167 percent.

This is not the defendant's first brush with the law. In fact, she has two prior arrests on her record – the second of which got her fired from her position as an assistant public defender last year. Now she finds herself facing not only a third DUI charge, but also a criminal charge relating to a refusal of a DUI test.

If you are currently facing criminal charges relating to a DUI, no matter if it's your first offense or if you have multiple DUI offenses on your criminal record, you need a Tampa DUI lawyer that you can rely upon. Contact Thomas and Paulk today if you would like to learn more about how we can help your legal rights. We are not deterred by complex situations and will do everything that we can to help our clients obtain the desirable outcome that they deserve. Call today to learn more.
