Tampa DUI Accident Injures Police Officer
A Tampa, FL man was driving on 39th Street on September 4 when a police officer attempted to pull him over. Instead of pulling over to the shoulder of the road, however, the defendant (initials D.S.) turned around and began to speed in the opposite direction. During his flee, the defendant ran through a stop sign into the intersection and hit a police officer who was heading towards the scene.
The police officer involved in the accident suffered from serious injuries and is currently still recovering from the damages that he sustained. He has been unable to return to right immediately and it is currently known when and if he will be able to.
The defendant now finds himself facing criminal charges that include three counts of DUI with serious injury, three counts of
reckless driving with serious injury, as well as two counts of DUI with property damage and two count of reckless driving. DUI testing showed that he had
marijuana in his system that was far above the legal threshold. He was released from jail on the day of accident, however, he is currently being held on $75,000 bail.
