According to news reports, Gainesville, Florida Mayor Craig Lowe was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol last Thursday. The Florida Highway Patrol claims that around 2:20 a.m. Lowe was driving his car around Alachua County. A witness reports that the man was clearly under the influence of something and right before the accident, the mayor actually fell asleep while behind the wheel of his car.
After the crash, the state troopers arrived at the scene and had him conduct a field sobriety tests in order to check if he was under the influence. They reported that not only did he smell extensively of alcohol, he did not do well on any of the tests. When Lowe questioned told the authorities at the scene that he had consumed 3 beers that evening. They arrested the Mayor for DUI with property damage, as well as careless driving.
