College Football Star Dismissed After DUI Arrest

Those that live in Florida love their state's football teams, which is why it was shocking to see that one of the highly-anticipated players from the University of Miami was arrested in mid-September on suspicion of DUI.

Local police were responding to a home to follow-up on a battery incident when nineteen-year-old Kevin Olsen pulled up in his car to inquire about what was happening. Officers noted that he had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and smelled of alcohol. Olsen was asked to perform field sobriety tests and was unable to maintain his balance.

Quarterback's Arrest Leads to Dismissal from School

Olsen was arrested at 4 a.m. and accused of driving under the influence and possession of fake or stolen identification. When given a breathalyzer test, it registered his blood alcohol level at .04. Olsen refused to submit to a urine test for the findings.

An underage person can be charged with a DUI if their blood alcohol level reaches .02 or above. Underage drivers face jail time if their BAC is .08 or above, a fine of up to $2,000 and a 6 month license suspension.

Olsen was also in possession of five different IDs. One from Maryland was an admitted fake ID with an altered date of birth and another belonged to a teammate. Olsen's tenure with the University of Miami football team has not been smooth. While recruited by the school due to his talent as a football quarterback, Olsen had been suspended from the team twice in his career. Last football season, he was suspended for breaking undisclosed school rules. Earlier in the current season, he was suspended for two games for failing a drug test.

As a result of the DUI arrest, Olsen has been dismissed from the University of Miami.
