Man in Women's Underwear Drives into Retirement Home

A small fire was started when a drunk driver slammed through the wall of a Tampa retirement community, but that was not the only surprise in store for residents of the home.

Multiple Charges Stem from DUI

The driver is said to have been driving the wrong way down a street when he passed a police officer. The officer turned on his lights to pull over the car but the car sped up and initiated a chase. The officer turned off his lights and did not pursue the chase.

A call to 911 indicated that the car had hit a retirement community. The vehicle struck a generator intake and started a small fire in the building. A 12-foot hole was left in the side of the building.

The driver, who has been previously arrested for prostitution, was wearing women's underwear, a bra, and high heels when he tried to run from police that arrived at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. No one was injured in the crash.

Besides being charged with driving under the influence, the driver was also booked on:

  • Driving under the influence with property damage,
  • Leaving the scene of a crash with property damage,
  • Fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, and
  • Driving with a suspended, canceled, or revoked license.

Charged with a DUI with Property Damage

A DUI with Property Damage charge means that a person that is driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs also caused damage to another person's property or body.

This offense is classified as a first degree misdemeanor and carries up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000, as well as the typical consequences of a DUI. Repayment of the damage caused to the property will also need to be paid.

Depending on the property damages, civil penalties may also be faced by the person whose property was damaged. This lawsuit can occur in addition to DUI with Property Damage charges.
